Contributions towards the SDG’s from FlexHospital constructions depend on the type of constructs. Below we shall have FlexHospitals in mind which are constructed in India, typically in a Tier-2 city (middle size) or at the outskirts of such a city with the intention to serve as a hospital for the masses. We emphasize that as part of the FlexHospital paradigm, not only the construction phase is involved but also the way the constructed FlexHospitals interact with and is embedded in the socio- regional environment and its institutions during the phase of operation. In fact, it is the ambition of FHAS to follow this interaction as well as the implementation of sound routines at FlexHospitals in conformity with local, regional and, where relevant, national traditions and in respect of tradition, experience and trends. Whenever desirable, FHAS will be happy to convey contacts to Danish know-how within the technical medico-related area or within the service area.
SDG1 (No poverty): Good health and education are among the most important topics to address poverty. Whereas illnesses in larger scale of a population are off strong negative influence to economic grows.
Placed in poor rural regions, FlexHospitals can be part of the regions organizational infrastructure and contribute to ensure social protection for the poor and vulnerable.
SDG2 (Zero hunger): Minor relevance. SDG2 points to the importance for FlexHospitals to be in contact with e.g. health posts in the region to ensure that sound practices of healthy nutrition and other preventive efforts are observed.
SDG3 (Good health and well-being): Of high relevance. Access for all to affordable universal health coverage is also a goal of the FlexHospital paradigm, in alignment with national health strategies in India.
SDG4 (Quality education): A well functional health care infrastructure is among the most important sources to educate people and health care personal. Universities and hospitals have a strong history to interact positively to grow knowledge and experience.
SDG5 (Gender equality): A way to women empowerment goes through equal rights to medical treatment with special focus on contributions to awareness for women and young girls of the functioning of their body. Possibly FlexHospitals could contribute to MHM-campaigns (Menstrual Health Management).
SDG6 (Clean water and sanitation): Sanitation and standards of hygiene at FlexHospitals should serve as a standard to follow.
SDG7 (Affordable and clean energy): NA
SDG8 (Decent work and economic growth): NA (or only indirectly of relevance).
SDG9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure): FlexHospital is a concept that have global reach but is locally build. Thus a FlexHospital is build in the serving country by local industry taking advantage of the FlexHospital experience in large scale infrastructure manufacturing. This experience will be a positive influence on other infrastructure projects.
SDG10 (Reduced inequalities): The goal emphasizes reduction of inequality within and among countries. With the ability to adapt quickly to new trends and opportunities within the health sector, the FlexHospital concept by construction contributes towards this goal.
SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities): FlexHospitals are sought integrated into the environments and hence contribute to a high level of well managed cities.
SDG12 (Responsible consumption and production): Of high relevance both during the construction phase with a significant reduction of material and during operation as reuse and refurbishing of modules is a key element in the FlexHospital concept.
SDG13 (Climate action): Of some relevance because of reduced CO2 emissions.
SDG14 (Life below water): NA
SDG15 (Life on land): NA
SDG16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions): Of some relevance when integrated into the overall network of social institutions.
SDG17 (Partnerships for the goals): Of high relevance as the FlexHospital paradigm aims at integration into the local environment, yet at the same time provides access to the highly developed hospital sector as well as service sector in Denmark.
